This May Come Across as a Little Racialist…

But I think that this dude:

Is going to win American Idol.

Recently some of my friends and I have started getting nice and drunk and watching Tivo’d  American Idol.  If you’ve got any sort of self respect you haven’t gotten as wrapped up in it as we have. We’re loud, obnoxious and opinionated.

So last night, we first watched the performance episode from Tuesday night. The WORST of all the performers was this guy pictured above, Sanjaya. It was a brutal butchering of the classic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” A song that you may remember as the “everything’s cool now between the black and white football players” from Remember the Titans.

Obviously everyone was assuming this dude was going home to wherever he’s from. However, for the second week in a row, after being the absolute worst I’ve ever seen on this show, he made it through.

Okay. Here’s my theory. You know how you can call or text in votes?

Where in the world are there like billions of call centers?

Eh?

Wink?

Nudge?

Say more?

Fine. Wouldn’t it be awesome if like the entire population of the Indian subcontinent got all motivated and voted this guy through based solely on their world leading position as a telephone support out-sourcing solution? What a coup!

  1. Oh. my. God. You’re right! Here I’ve been thinking that it was because a gazillion 12-year-old teenyboppers had fallen in love with his puppy-dog eyes and weirdly malleable hair, in a Donny Osmond / Michael Jackson sort of way, and didn’t care that he can’t sing as well as my golden retriever. But it’s actually the work of a billion people with his call-in number on speed dial… 😀

  2. I had that same conversation with my teenage daughter a week ago. I have nothing against people from India, but by sheer numbers they could push Sanjay through to the end. They are very close-knit culture, any this could be the opportunity they take to show their support for one another (not to mention other countries with similar relations). But, if this is the case, they should consider Sanjay’s feelings – because this is not fair to him! The judges are criticizing him every time he steps on stage – because, even though he has a soft sweet voice, he is not American Idol/recording artist material. If he is pushed through to the end, the american public, for whom the show is aimed, will not support him – and why subject him to that to make a point. He’s a very nice person, but he should have been voted off the show long ago.

  3. Hahaha.

While I think my theory holds only the tiniest bit of water, I still think it would be supermegazordawesome if it were true and he DID get sent through to the end.😆

But you’re right, the ensuing criticism would just tear that sweet little kid apart.

  4. I hate to burst this conspiracy theory, but from what I hear from my friends in India, they are as much as shocked as we are…. another reason why the theory don’t hold any water is coz they don’t get to see American Idol live… they see it almost 12 to 18 hours later. So the question is, why is he still on?? No clue what so ever. I pity him in the coming weeks, coz, he is going to be butchered by the judges and the public alike. I hope he does not become suicidal after that.

  5. Only Brandon (who got voted off) had less votes than Sanjaya last night.. so your argument really holds no weight. He was already close to being voted off so he can’t be getting THAT many votes.

Also, this is AMERICAN IDOL, I don’t believe that calls from other countries would be counted as a valid vote.

  6. Awe.

I know you guys are right.

I’m just such a huge fan of international conspiracies.

  7. From what I’ve heard, people like Howard Stern, have been urging their listeners to vote for the worst singer on A.I. to throw off the contest. This could be one of the reasons that he’s still there. I’m just glad Antonella is gone. I had coupled the two names together at one point, like Brangelina…..I kept telling all my friends that Santenella (Sanjaya + Antonella) needs to go.
